I wear 137 costumes in ‘Fashion’: Priyanka Chopra

quite impressive interview

In Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Fashion”, actress Priyanka Chopra will be seen in an unbelievable 137 outfits in the film!Priyanka plays a small-town girl, Meghna Mathur, who goes on to become a supermodel in Mumbai. The dresses support the five subtle but distinct phases her character goes through in the film.

“I wear 137 costumes in ‘Fashion’, and it was required as my character goes through a huge journey in one-and-a-half years. And we had a lot of montages in the film, a lot of ad commercials and of course fashion shows, which is why the requirement of costumes was so high for my character,” Priyanka told IANS in an interview.

Priyanka is seen flaunting a range of clothes from designer wear, while sashaying down the ramp, to t-shirts and jeans while portraying a model’s normal life.

Throwing light on her different looks in the film, she said: “There are five changes that happen to my character in the film. When she comes from Chandigarh, she has a little bit of a small-town kind of styling, then she becomes a model… a little more polished. She then becomes very stylish and then a supermodel.

“When she loses her head, she becomes very arrogant and her make-up becomes darker and a lot more edgy. Then during her downfall, I am devoid of make- up. The resurrection portion is softer because she is scared and broken while trying to regain her self-confidence. We tried all those looks to keep different so that the character’s journey looks seamless through the film.”

India:Fashion unfolds a dark tale

more news from “fashion”…

He is known for making realistic cinema. After telling the story of high society people in Page 3 and of business honchos in Corporate, Madhur Bhandarkar now attempts to probe the dark side of the style industry in his Fashion, releasing Wednesday.

Set against the glittering backdrop of the glamorous but ruthless world of haute couture, the film tells the story of a small town girl who dreams to make it big in the world of glitz and glamour.

However, Bhandarkar’s attempt to probe the dark side of the fashion industry has fashionistas worried that it might generate negative vibes about the industry.

“The fashion fraternity need not be afraid of my film. They have doubts over what I have shown in the film about their industry. But I’m sure they won’t be disappointed and their fears will be gone once they watch the movie,” Bhandarkar said in an interview.

Former beauty queen Priyanka Chopra is playing the main lead in the movie, which also has models like Arjan Bajwa and Mugdha Godse.

Fashion revolves around the journey of rise and fall and phoenix-like rebirth of the country’s number one supermodel Meghna Mathur played by Priyanka Chopra.

Meghna knew that she was meant to be famous. Despite coming from a conservative background, she dared to dream of bright lights and the big city.

Meghna’s role model is Shonali Gujral (Kangana Ranaut), reigning model on the runway.

India:Bhandarkar drops gay kiss from Fashion

The censors had their say…

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has dropped a gay kissing scene between actors Samir Soni and Anil Kumar from his forthcoming film Fashion before it went to the censor board. He, however, plans to restore it on DVD.

“What a beautifully-shot scene of intimacy it is between Samir and Anil. You forget their gender. They’re just two people in love expressing their feelings,” said Bhandarkar.

“I took it out before taking it to the censor board. I thought portraying a homosexual couple was bold enough. The kiss would have been too much. But now I’m planning to restore it on the DVD,” the director said.

The film, which also stars Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Mugdha Godse and Arjan Bajwa, is releasing Oct 29.

Samir, best remembered as Amitabh Bachchan’s ungrateful son in Baghban, says he didn’t face any nervousness or inhibition while doing it.

“Anil was more nervous than I could ever be. I wasn’t nervous or anxious at all. Why should I be? I think too much hoo-ha is made in our country about sexual orientation. Isn’t there enough violence and unrest being created against minority groups on the basis of religion? Do we need to get all heated up about what two grown-up men do in privacy?” he asked.

The gay kiss in Fashion happens in the car. “It’s a very natural moment between two people in love. And I didn’t have a moment’s hesitation in doing it. Why should I? I don’t have a girlfriend to be answerable to. I did think, ‘Oh my god, what will my parents say?’ But it’s not me, it’s my character kissing the person he loves.

“Madhur (Bhandarkar, the director of Fashion) is a dear friend and considers me family. He’s been there for nearly six-seven exhibitions of mine, sometimes flying down from Mumbai to Delhi just for my show. So this is my way of paying tribute to Madhur,” says Anjanna. “If I paint women on my canvas, he does that in cinema. He’s among the few directors with the guts to make women-oriented films, and they’re not typical commercial cinema, but they do well. So this is his film, on my canvas,” she says.

India:Fashion earns Rs 85 mn from in-film advertising

more buzz from “fashion” :D

His forthcoming film Fashion has got an ‘A’ certificate that may limit his audience size, but director-producer Madhur Bhandarkar has some reason to smile – of the Rs 220 million investment in the movie, it has already earned as much as Rs 85 million (Rs 8.5 crores) from in-film advertisement alone.

A co-production of UTV Motion Pictures and Bhandarkar Entertainment, Fashion has six prestigious brand placements – clothing brands Kimaya and Reebok, Lenovo laptop, Sunsilk shampoo, Cellucom and LG Electronics.

“The brands have been chosen carefully so they are relevant to the scenes where they will be displayed, without causing a jarring note,” said a UTV marketing executive.

Fashion, which stars Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Mugdha Godse and Arjan Bajwa, is set to release on October 29.

In-film advertising has been gaining momentum in Bollywood. The sole reason is that while the products get visibility at a premium price, serving the purpose of their advertisers, filmmakers also earn handsome revenues by letting the brands get screen space in movies.

According to reports, film placements are currently raking in anything between Rs 500,000 to Rs 50 million for the producers.

India:Priyanka’s love scenes get Fashion an ‘A’

again,more buzz from “fashion” ;)

Award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar is upset that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has given his next film Fashion an “adults-only” certificate.

“Given the movie’s theme, I certainly never expected that the board would give it a ‘U’ certificate, but I was sure it would receive a U/A certificate,” Bhandarkar admitted.

Bhandarkar, who has co-produced the film with UTV Motion Pictures, describes Fashion as his most glamorous film. He roped in Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut, Arjan Bajwa and Mugdha Godse to do the lead roles.

The board members, who saw the movie on Monday in Mumbai, objected to six scenes including Priyanka and Arjan’s lovemaking scenes and Priyanka and Kangana’s dragging at drugs scenes. The members asked Bhandarkar and his co-producer, Ronnie Screwvala, to delete them from the movie.

As the director refused to delete the scenes, the board has given it an ‘A’ certificate.

Nandita Das’ “Firaaq”, also from India, is the opening night feature of the festival and Das starrer “Ramchand Pakistani” directed by Mehreen Jabbar is the closing film. The festival runs Oct 22-28.

SAIFF 2008 will present a select combination of full-length films, shorts and documentaries in a variety of genres. Fashion fraternity need not fear my film: Madhur Bhandarkar

this movie creates a lot of buzz!

Madhur Bhandarkar has exposed the darker side of many a profession through his films, but the acclaimed director says the fashion fraternity need not fret over the release of his Fashion as it is essentially a model’s emotional journey through the industry.

Priyanka’s Fashion in trouble

“The fashion fraternity need not be afraid of my film. They have doubts over what I have shown in the film about their industry. But I’m sure they won’t be disappointed and their fears will be gone once they watch the movie,” Bhandarkar said.

The director is known for the realistic portraying of socially relevant issues in hard hitting movies such as Chandni Bar, Satta, Page 3 and Corporate. He has dealt with subjects like the life of bar dancers, page three journalism, politics and the corporate world in these films.

Fashion is not a satirical or critical take on the fashion fraternity. It is a personal and absolutely emotional journey told from a model’s perspective. I am not making any statement on the fashion industry at all through the film; neither does it deal with their internal politics,” Bhandarkar said.

Fashion is releasing on October 29 and stars Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Arbaaz Khan. Model Mugdha Godse makes her big screen debut with the film, which also has Arjan Bajwa and many others from the fashion industry.

Madhur praises Priyanka’s performance in Fashion

Bhandarkar, who recently won his third National Award for Traffic Signal, stressed that like his earlier films, extensive research went into the making of Fashion.
