Posh feels the chill as Katie puts her in the shade with her fashion collection

The rapidly cooling friendship between Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes is under further strain with the news that Tom Cruise’s wife is likely to eclipse Posh at New York Fashion Week.

Victoria, 33, will use the event to promote her new clothing line VDB but has cancelled her runway show claiming she is not ready to launch the collection.

Meanwhile, Katie, 29, will parade the latest Holmes-Yang collection to kick off Fashion Week.

‘The timing is unfortunate,’ says a spy. ‘Victoria will have private viewings of her new collection instead.

‘Officially, Victoria’s people say no runway show was planned and this has nothing to do with Katie launching her line but the truth is Victoria doesn’t want the inevitable comparisons.’

Sources say the friendship has gone off the boil largely because of the Beckhams’ reluctance to join the Church of Scientology.

* Meanwhile, Tom Cruise has stepped up security at his Los Angeles home after two anthrax threats were sent to his United Artists offices, forcing the entire building to be evacuated.

‘Nothing came of it but Tom fears the threats were directed at him,’ says a Hollywood insider.

sparking speculation about who had created her outfit - she designed
it.

Hollywood stars seem to have hit a wall this week, parading down the carpet in a series of uninspiring outfits.

The only exception is Katie Holmes, who took matters into her own hands and designed her own dress.

Everybody on the red carpet of Tropic Thunder wanted to know who had designed Katie Holmes’ dress – it turns out that Katie herself came up with the idea for the navy gown with the leather pleated bodice.

Apparently, fashion design is not something she wants to pursue full time – unlike her BFF Posh - but if her film career continues to nose-dive it’s something to consider.

Ms Moss, surprisingly often a fan of the more is more school of accessorising, made the case for minimalism in a grey mini-dress on a recent trip to Berlin – the interesting shape and clean lines unspoilt by anything more than simple flats and an equally unfussy bag. And over in New York, Katie Holmes took a U-turn from the sloppy jeans and layers she has favoured lately, opting for a tailored jacket and trousers in classic black, while Ashley Olsen abandoned her deluxe hippie look for something altogether more serious.

Come on Katie.. ditch the jeans!

Everytime I see those jeans I’m transported back to the school disco circa 1982 where the 10-year-olds were sporting a kind of country bumpkin chic – baggy dunagrees (with turn-ups), checked shirts and neck ties – as they boogied to Come On Eileen.

Well those days are long gone so there’s no excuse for Katie to be seen out looking like a member of Dexys.
