Bollywood.

The lady has painted the Fashion girls – Kangna Ranaut, Priyanka Chopra and Mugdha Godse – as she sees them, on a 6X4 canvas, which will be unveiled around the release date of the movie. The event is slated for tomorrow in Mumbai, and for the 27th in Delhi, where the cast and crew of the movie will be present.
“Madhur (Bhandarkar, the director of Fashion) is a dear friend and considers me family. He’s been there for nearly six-seven exhibitions of mine, sometimes flying down from Mumbai to Delhi just for my show. So this is my way of paying tribute to Madhur,” says Anjanna. “If I paint women on my canvas, he does that in cinema. He’s among the few directors with the guts to make women-oriented films, and they’re not typical commercial cinema, but they do well. So this is his film, on my canvas,” she says.

“Fashion” to premiere at New York’s South Asian film fest

more buzz from “fashion” :D

“Fashion”, Madhur Bhandarkar’s film set in the glamorous but ruthless world of haute couture, is slated for its world premiere Oct 24 during the week-long 5th South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF) here. Nandita Das’ “Firaaq”, also from India, is the opening night feature of the festival and Das starrer “Ramchand Pakistani” directed by Mehreen Jabbar is the closing film. The festival runs Oct 22-28.

SAIFF 2008 will present a select combination of full-length films, shorts and documentaries in a variety of genres. With several screening locations in Manhattan and high-profile sponsors like HBO, the New York Times and Time Warner Cable, the festival is dedicated to supporting established and emerging filmmakers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, as well as the South Asian diaspora.

“Fashion”, starring Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Raj Babbar explores the world of style through the emotional journeys of the key people that make up the industry -models, designers, photographers, agencies and businessmen.

“Firaaq”, which premiered last month at the Toronto International Film Festival, takes place over a 24-hour period one month after the 2002 communal violence in Gujarat. It features a star studded ensemble portraying the emotional journeys of “ordinary people” – some victims, some perpetrators and some who watched silently.

Fashion fraternity need not fear my film: Madhur Bhandarkar

this movie creates a lot of buzz!

Madhur Bhandarkar has exposed the darker side of many a profession through his films, but the acclaimed director says the fashion fraternity need not fret over the release of his Fashion as it is essentially a model’s emotional journey through the industry.

Priyanka’s Fashion in trouble

“The fashion fraternity need not be afraid of my film. They have doubts over what I have shown in the film about their industry. But I’m sure they won’t be disappointed and their fears will be gone once they watch the movie,” Bhandarkar said.

The director is known for the realistic portraying of socially relevant issues in hard hitting movies such as Chandni Bar, Satta, Page 3 and Corporate. He has dealt with subjects like the life of bar dancers, page three journalism, politics and the corporate world in these films.

Fashion is not a satirical or critical take on the fashion fraternity. It is a personal and absolutely emotional journey told from a model’s perspective. I am not making any statement on the fashion industry at all through the film; neither does it deal with their internal politics,” Bhandarkar said.

Fashion is releasing on October 29 and stars Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Arbaaz Khan. Model Mugdha Godse makes her big screen debut with the film, which also has Arjan Bajwa and many others from the fashion industry.

Madhur praises Priyanka’s performance in Fashion

Bhandarkar, who recently won his third National Award for Traffic Signal, stressed that like his earlier films, extensive research went into the making of Fashion.

India:Priyanka Chopra on “fashion”

So more news from “fashion”

But, while the actress admits she had to work out for the movie, she says she’s not very fond of exercising in general. “When it comes to my body, I guess I’m genetically blessed,” she grins. “But, I work out when my characters demand it. I feel very responsible for the one in Madhur Bhandarkar’s film. It’s very real. I put on five kgs for the beginning of the movie because my character comes from Chandigarh to Mumbai for the first time, and she looks very real with that weight. It gives the character a rawness and marks the difference clearly when the transformation happens,” she further chats.

Being termed as Ms Sexy: It is very flattering to get compliments of the ‘most good-looking’ kinds, but I don’t agree with these because I believe that there are many beautiful and sexy women in the country. But, I am extremely grateful to everyone who thinks that I am.

Being fit: When it comes to fitness and caring for my body, I am genetically blessed. I am not very fond of working out and I guess I should admit that. I only work out when my characters demand it. But, yes, when I work out, I can afford to eat everything and even when I am not working out, I am shooting for about 17 to 18 hours, which is equal to physical training.

Her idea of prince charming: Oh, my list is endless and I hope you have time for this! There are two things that I keep in mind — physical attributes and personality. Physically, he has to be taller than me, must have eyes that light up when he smiles, and he has got to be able to dance. I am very fond of dancing.

India:Fashion malfunction worries Madhur

let´s hope the best

Madhur Bhandarkar is a worried man. The post-production of Fashion is not yet complete. First Priyanka Chopra had a very bad throat because of which she had to cancel the dubbing of Fashion. And now the film industry’s workers’ strike has put further time pressure on Madhur’s precious film.

Says Madhur, “Our release is October 29, that’s Wednesday, so we got a long Diwali weekend for our film. There’s no way we could cancel. However the workers’ strike brought everything to a grinding halt.” Madhur feels films on release should have been exempted from the strike. “Films like Fashion, EMI and Golmaal Returns which are all releasing during Diwali have huge stakes. We can’t afford to fall back. So maybe the strike should not be applicable to films on release. However, people like Mahesh Bhatt and Ashok Pundit worked hard at a solution to the strike.”

The situation does seem worrisome for Madhur Bhandarkar, what with the strike and Priyanka’s bad throat, which actually started with all the screaming she did for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey. Says Madhur, “Priyanka did dub a bit on Thursday after her voice improved. But now she can’t until the strike is over. I’m ready to do the dubbing with all the artistes in different studios to save time. But the strike has to be over.”

Apparently, Priyanka is pitching her naturalistic performance in Fashion as a Chandigarh girl aspiring to be a super-model at a National award.

Now Fashion in Diwali

I´m so excited to watch this movie

The precise films slated for release this Diwali is still unclear. Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion was scheduled to hit the screens on October 17, but with Karzz arriving on this date and T-Series ready to bombard the channels with promos of this Himesh Reshammiya film, Fashion has decided to look at a better date. “It’s now confirmed for Diwali, as things stand today,” Madhur said.

Meanwhile, a section of the (irresponsible) media had reported that SRK’s Billo Barber and Karan Johar’s Dostana would clash on the same date (November 14), but it’s untrue. The date for Billo Barber is yet to be confirmed (a decision would be taken once Priyadarshan arrives in Mumbai), but the date is either last week of October or the first week of November.

Fashion se darna mana hai

I´m really exited to watch the film and can´t wait till november!

Madhur Bhandarkar thinks he’s caught in an image trap. More so, when asked to answer questions with the words ‘expose’ or ‘underbelly’ in them. “It’s just my image!” he protests.

“People portray me as sort of a moral policeman. The other day I went to Leelavati Hospital to see a friend’s father. I was just chatting in the corridor with my friend after seeing him, when two doctors walked up to me and said, ‘You really need to make a film on how a hospital functions. There are such malpractices that go on in large hospitals’… Another time, I was picking up DVDs at a shop when two women came up and told me how important it was that I make a movie that would expose the racket of educational institutions charging money for admissions. I have been branded with that image!”

You earned that image – not that it’s one to be defensive about – with movie after movie, Madhur. Isn’t that image the reason why the fashion world’s petrified at the prospect of your movie’s release?

“I know a perception has been created by some elements that Fashion is going to have a negative take on the fashion industry, that it’s going to ‘expose’ models, undercurrents, and, well, gay designers – let’s be frank. But I have no such agenda. The models, the designers, all of them, they are all part of society. My film will just reflect all that’s there. It’s about characters, yaar. You have all sorts of characters – metrosexuals, heterosexuals, the gay designers – everybody who inhabits the word of fashion. Ab fashion world mein gangsters toh nahin aayenge na ?” Accepted, Madhur. How they’ll be portrayed is what’s giving sleepless nights to more than a few, though.

“This is the image problem! I have been given the image that Madhur goes about exploring and exposing industries and things – sometimes he hits the page 3 people, sometimes he hits the corporate world… But that’s not what I am doing. We are not targeting the industry. It is a very human story, the most emotional story of my career so far. And if I were demeaning the industry, would leading names connected to the industry – Wendell Rodericks, Narendra Kumar Ahmed, Shane-Falguni, Rita Dhody – be associated with the film? They say models are apprehensive. I have about 11 fashion shows in the film, with top-of-the-line models – Anchal Kumar, Jessy Randhawa, Nayanika Chatterjee – walking the ramp. Why would they come to be part of a project that demeans modelling?” ,

Actor Samir Soni hopes high with gay role in ‘Fashion’

fashion” will be THE movie of november 08,stay tuned:

Model-turned-actor Samir Soni hopes national award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar’s film ‘Fashion’, in which he plays the character of a gay designer, will be a turning point for his career.

“This is one of the most challenging roles of my career and I am looking forward to justify it with my performance,” says Samir.

The actor, who began his career with Raj Kumar Santoshi’s ‘China Gate’ in 1998 opposite Mamata Kulkarni and later went on to act in films like ‘Lajja,’ ‘Baghban’ and Vivah could not make a successful mark in the film industry.

Samir who plays the character of a gay designer says it is has been the most challenging role of his career so far and the actor is thrilled about this unusual role in the film.

“When I heard about the character, I felt this is what I was looking for a challenging and refreshing role. And I decided to act in the film,” says Samir, who is more famous as a model despite acting in films and TV serials.

Samir made his mark as the effortless and clever Ashok Gupta in Doordarshan’s ‘A Mouthful of Sky’ in 1996 besides acting in hit TV serials like “Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin” and “Saaksshi”.

The actor says that though his character was a little unusual for him but his experience in the modeling field helped him a lot to understand the role.

“As a a model I have lots of gay friends and I also know many gays very closely. So, I didn’t face any problem in understanding the character,” says Samir. PTI
